3PXS were in Vancouver again this January for the annual AME Round Up Conference. Prior to Round Up we attended the Imdex XplorationTech Symposium, which helps us keep current with the latest technical advances in the industry. After the conference Simon and Aidan delivered a hands-on ioGAS short course in conjunction with the Mineral Deposits Research Unit (MDRU) of the University of British Columbia (UBC).
AME Round Up was a great opportunity to join the 6,200+ other attendees and meet with existing clients, friends, ex-colleagues and develop new contacts in the mining and mineral exploration industry. There was also plenty of great looking drill core on booths, especially at the Core Shack. Hand lenses at the ready, we took advantage of the chance to learn more about how the rocks look at 48 projects across British Columbia and beyond.
During the geochemistry course, titled “Maximizing the Value of Geochemical Data” we introduced QC monitoring and data quality assessment/validation. This was followed by an overview of our geochemical data interpretation workflows using ioGAS.
Application of workflows to real-life industry data for lithogeochemistry, alteration and mineralisation mapping was illustrated. Hands-on sessions, using data from an active porphyry project, with the ioGAS software, further demonstrated the importance of improved understanding of chemical changes in the mineral system.
Participants learnt first-hand how such knowledge from data translates to deciphering controls on mineralisation. This, in turn, enables improved targeting in mineral exploration and geometallurgical testing. Improving orebody knowledge in such ways thus adds value to projects throughout the mining value chain. The practical sessions triggered and facilitated some excellent technical discussions.
Next month Simon from 3PXS will be attending the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference in Toronto. Feel free to stop Simon for a chat if you’d like any more information, assistance, or advice on any of these topics, or more. If you miss Simon at the PDAC, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
