IAGS Adelaide – 2024

Third Planet Exploration (3PXS) were in Australia for the 30th International Applied Geochemistry Symposium (IAGS Adelaide) this October. The IAGS is a gathering of geochemists from all over the world held every two years. The theme for the 2024 conference was “Applied Geochemistry for a Sustainable Future.” Topics from environment, exploration and the latest research developments in the world of geochemistry were exhibited.

During the conference we attended talks, engaging with other geochemists and contributed through two poster presentations. The postered displayed some of the geochemical workflows we have developed since the previous IAGS (which was held in Chile, 2022). The titles for these posters are:

  1. Using RedOx Sensitive Trace Elements (ROSTEs) as an Exploration Tool for Carbonate Hosted Mineral Deposits.
  2. Using VMS Drill Hole Multi-Element Analysis as a Proxy for Pyrite Mineral Chemistry

Before Adelaide, Simon and Aidan visited Perth for a few days and then Melbourne (Simon) and Sydney (both) after the symposium. They caught up with old acquaintances in all four cities and Simon also attended the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) in Sydney.

IMARC featured nine concurrent conferences covering the entire mining value chain with technical talks, panel discussions and keynote presentations. There were many opportunities to network, brainstorm, and knowledge share across the three days.
