Simon Griffiths is a consulting economic geologist with 35 years’ experience in mineral exploration with major mining companies in several commodities (Cu, Au, Ag, Pb-Zn, U, Ni, Co, Li, diamonds, coal and coal bed methane). Simon has worked in countries in North America, South America, Australia, Asia and Africa. For 8 years as Global Chief Geochemist at Barrick he drove improved understanding of several world-class mineral deposits by improving the effectiveness of geochemistry. Then, as Chief Geologist for South America, Simon was responsible for budgeting and delivering all technical aspects of the Barrick exploration pipeline across the region. These roles included significant contributions to mid and long-term exploration strategy planning, requiring regular interaction with other global leaders and corporate functional heads. This built on previous project management skills developed in roles in Rio Tinto, such as pre-feasibility Project Manager for a 6Bt thermal coal property on indigenous lands in the U.S. With Third Planet Exploration Services, Simon has delivered powerful geochemical data analyses to 40+ companies with 60 projects in over 21 countries across 6 continents.
